Get-Along-Gang Lyrics

Here are the lyrics to the songs from The Get-Along-Gang pilot episode and the Saturday morning cartoon series. All of the songs from the pilot were written and performed by John Sebastian of The Lovin' Spoonful. An MP3 file of the song is also at the end of the song if you want to download it.

This first one was sung during the beginning credits

In the town of Green Meadow that's a lot like yours
There's some kids who know what a gang is for
They've learned what being happy's really all about
It comes from friends who help each other out
Friends who help each other out

You know you've got to have friends if you want to have fun
A whole lot of smiles are better than one
You can get a lot done when you know you belong
You can get a lot farther when you get along
All you have to do is get along

We're the Get-Along-Gang having our fun
The Get-Along-Gang out on the run
We share and play and laugh and talk and work together too
There's nothing that the Get-Along-Gang can't do

We're the Get-Along-Gang, oh what a team
The Get-Along-Gang works like a dream
To get a friend just be a friend, that's all you've got to do
And the Get-Along-Gang is the gang for you

This next song was where Catchum and Leland were outside of Hoofnagel's, adding their own item to the scavenger hunt list.

Catchum and Leland sure want to win
And cheating really doesn't even bother them
So Catchum's come up with a sneaky plan
To take the Scavenger Hunt into his own hands

Catchum really wants to win the hunt today
He really wants to win in the world's worst way
He'll find a sneaky way of winning, and it's really not fair
With the Get-Along-Gang searching everywhere

He's adding something to the list, better do it on the double
Something to the list, or he's gonna get in trouble
(yes, this particular song is this short)

The next song opens with Zipper riding along on his motorized scooter (that's what they said it was in the book) with the canoe on the handlebars, and he's heading for two narrow trees, and about to crash into them. Now that I've set the scene, time to rekindle memories

Now everybody's scramblin' to be Number One
'Cause they wanna be the winner when the hunt is done
They're rushin' and they're racin' so they won't be late
And everyone's forgotten to cooperate
The Get-Along-Gang can wait

'Cause they're the Get-It-Wrong-Gang, they think of themselves
The Get-It-Wrong-Gang, nobody else
It's not that they are bad or mad, or even that they're mean
It's just that they've forgotten how to be a team

The Get-It-Wrong-Gang, not acting like friends
The Get-It-Wrong-Gang, they just want to win
When the winning's more important than the friends you know
The Get-Along-Gang has a long way to go

The next song is when the Model Q breaks down on the race track, and the Gang goes out to fix it

Dotty: Come on! Let's get along, gang!
Gang: Let's get along!

You know you can't keep a good gang down
And friends really count when there's trouble around
They may not keep the clubhouse and they may not win
But the Get-Along-Gang is a team again
Just like they've always been

We're the Get-Along-Gang, doing our best
The Get-Along-Gang, facing the test
Everybody's doing all that they know how to do
To win the Grand Prix with the Model Q

We're the Get-Along-Gang, we're way behind
The Get-Along-Gang, but we don't mind
We know the most important things is staying friends
And the Get-Along-Gang is getting along again

This last one is a reprise of the title, only done at the ending credits. But before they went to ending credits, Dotty led the Gang in a cheer.

Bing bong bang
We're the Get-Along-Gang
Bing bang bong
We love to get along
Bang bong bing
Just watch us do our thing

You know you've got to have friends if you want to have fun
A whole lot of smiles are better than one
You can get a lot done when you know you belong
You can get a lot farther when you get along
All you have to do is get along

We're the Get-Along-Gang having our fun
The Get-Along-Gang out on the run
We share and play and laugh and talk and work together too
There's nothing that the Get-Along-Gang can't do

We're the Get-Along-Gang, oh what a team
The Get-Along-Gang works like a dream
To get a friend just be a friend, that's all you've got to do
And the Get-Along-Gang is the gang for you

The next song is the Saturday morning cartoon theme song. The one problem is, I don't know who wrote it, or who sang it. Anybody know? The video I have cut a little out of the title (why it did that, I'll never know). But I found a sound clip of the theme, which included the chunk that was cut out off my tape, so now I believe the lyrics are complete.

The Get-Along-Gang, Get-Along-Gang
Each one so special in his own way
Montgomery's the leader
And he's such a good sport
The Get-Along-Gang, Get-Along-Gang

There's Woolma and Dotty with the spirit
And Bingo the prankster doesn't ruin it
Logical Portia will figure out
And last Zipper, the lean machine

Get up with the Get-Along-Gang
Come on, they're adventures don't end
Get up with the Get-Along-Gang
Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh

Get up with the Get-Along Gang
The Clubhouse Caboose on it's way
Get up with the Get-Along-Gang
Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh
Get up!
